Total Hydrogen Solutions Integrates Honda Fuel Cell Module into 60 kW Hydrogen Power Unit
A Vehicle-Derived Fuel Cell Enters Stationary Backup Power
PHC Group's Total Hydrogen Solutions business unit has selected American Honda's fuel cell module for integration into its own line of hydrogen power generators. The new model, designated FCBG-H60, was formally unveiled at the RE+ Texas renewable energy exhibition in Houston, delivering a rated output of 60 kW per unit from a single Honda fuel cell module. It marks the latest U.S. deployment of Honda's automotive-derived fuel cell technology in a stationary hydrogen power generation application.
Modular Design and Flexible Deployment
The hydrogen power generator uses a standardized modular enclosure housing one Honda fuel cell module, producing clean electricity at notably lower noise levels than conventional diesel gensets. The unit includes a dedicated HVAC system and insulated enclosure to withstand extreme heat and cold, plus a connection interface for remote hydrogen storage. Target customers include critical infrastructure operators, defense projects and commercial entities requiring resilient on-site power.
Deployment flexibility is a central design goal. The system can be installed quickly with reduced ongoing maintenance, and can operate either grid-connected or in island mode. Operators manage the unit through an on-board touchscreen or monitor performance remotely via a cloud data dashboard. Beyond the stationary model, the company has developed a trailer-mounted version aimed at emergency response and short-term temporary power, with rental models supported.
Safety Certification and California Incentives
On safety and compliance, the FCBG-H60 follows NFPA 2 requirements and has been validated against the UL 9540A test standard for overheating and thermal runaway risk, supporting long-duration reliable operation. Its zero-emission profile has earned the generator a place on the California Air Resources Board listing and eligibility under the Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE), allowing participating purchasers to claim incentives that reduce upfront costs for zero-emission power equipment in the state.
Industry Impact
David Perzynski, assistant manager of Honda's hydrogen carbon-neutral solutions, said the company's decarbonization strategy spans the full value chain, with power generation a key focus, and that partnering with Total Hydrogen Solutions brings proven hydrogen power units to market. Total Hydrogen Solutions head Bret Adams said the collaboration combines decades of genset project experience β parent Total Energy Solutions has installed and serviced more than 4,000 units in the U.S. since 2006 β with advanced fuel cell technology, extending fuel pathways from natural gas, propane and diesel to zero-carbon hydrogen. The partners plan to bring the hybrid system to market in 2026.
